Arline Cohn Obituary

Farmington, Connecticut
Arline Levy Cohn, 100, of Farmington, CT and formerly of Greenfield, MA, passed away peacefully at her home on May 5, 2018. Arline was the beloved wife of Simon Louis Cohn, who passed away in 1999. She was the loving sister of Eliot, Hap, Bernard and Ralph, who predeceased her.
Arline is survived by her devoted children Marcus (Jane) Cohn of Wayland, MA, Susan Doran (and the late William C. Doran) of West Hartford, CT, and Robert (Mary) Cohn of Greenfield, MA. Arline also leaves her adoring grandchildren Elizabeth Cohn, Amy Cohn, Amanda Doran (Gilbert Cordova), Abigail Doran O'Meara (and her partner Andrew Hare), Jonathan Doran (Basak), Hannah Aneiros (Michael), Simon Cohn, and Parker Cohn; her great-grandchildren Maia Friedman-Cohn, Alicia Cordova, Zachary O'Meara, Alexandra O'Meara, William Doran, Jack Doran, and Wesley Aneiros; and many other relatives and friends.
Arline adored her family and was happiest when we were together. Arline was born on September 24, 1917, in Springfield, MA, and was the daughter of Ralph Jacob and Dorothy (Phillips) Levy. She grew up in Northampton, MA, graduated from Smith College, and lived in Greenfield, MA for close to 60 years.Arline had along, interesting life filled with family, friends, community involvement and world travel. She worked as an adoption social worker, served as state director and was a longtime advocate for MSPCC (The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children), was a founding member to help make Greenfield Community College a reality, and was a very well-known community volunteer in Greenfield, MA; in fact, in 1994 Arline was named Franklin County's Citizen of the Year.
We fondly remember some of Arline's words to live by, such as "Don't love anything that can't love you back!" and "Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe." Arline's family is thankful to have had so many wonderful years with her.
We would like to express our special thanks and appreciation to her longtime caregivers Olga Kulyyev and Evelyn Frimpong.
There will be a Memorial Service for Arline on Friday, June 29, 2018, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Blue Heron in Sunderland, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Simon and Arline Cohn fund at Greenfield Community College for professional development, or to general scholarship funds.
