Arlene F. Cocco passed away peacefully in the presence of family on August 11, 2024, nine days short of what would have been her 102nd birthday.
She is predeceased by her husband and survived by her four children, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and countless friends. All knew they were loved by Arlene. Arlene worked the majority of her career as a bookkeeper for the former Sweeny Ford Dealership. Her 4’10” stature was no match for her outsized personality. After finally retiring at 80, it took three tries until she was truly ready, she moved to Ormond Beach, FL. to be with her brothers and sister who had relocated.
Arlene, in her 90s, returned to Greenfield to be near her children and maybe to make sure they continued the traditions she worked hard to perfect. Occasional trips to the casino along with chocolate martinis probably sealed the deal in luring her back. She led a full life in her 101 years. Decades of Sunday dinners with laughs and good food provided a joy and purpose that she relished. Arlene left us with her love of travel, an appreciation of and an ability to cook an excellent meal, a strong work ethic and love of family firmly embedded in those she loved. We could not have asked for more.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed on Saturday August 17th, 2024 at 11:00AM at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield, Massachusetts. Rites of committal and interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield, Massachusetts 01301. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice in her name. McCarthy Funeral Homes entrusted with Arlene’s care and arrangements. Expressions of affection and remembrance maybe directed to her Tribute Wall at www.mccarthyfuneralhomes.com
