Anne Needham Obituary

Greenfield, Massachusetts
Anne Elizabeth (Britton) Goddard Needham, 91, of 18 Myers Farm Lane, Greenfield, MA, died peacefully on September 20, 2014 at the Buckley Health Care Facility, following a period of declining health.
A native of Greenfield, MA, she was born to Roscoe L. and Sarah (Carkin) Britton on December 23, 1922. Anne graduated from Greenfield High School in the Class of 1941 where she played drums in the marching band.
A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield, MA where she was active in the Rosary Sodality, as well as the Catholic Women’s Council of the parish. Anne enjoyed traveling, working in her gardens, cooking/baking, arts & crafts and knitting and crocheting Afghans for all her children and grandchildren. She was active in her children’s pursuits, following their sporting events, participating in PTA and along with being a former Cub Scout den leader. The grandchildren always looked forward to Grams chocolate chip & sugar cookies, deviled eggs, squash pie (even though some of them believed it was pumpkin pie) and her buckeyes. But most of all through thick and thin, she was a true Red Sox fan.
Anne and her first husband S. Stuart Goddard owned the Antique Auto Museum on the Mohawk Trail during the 50’s and 60’s. During that time they met many government officials, entertainment stars and dignitaries, all of whom loved cars. Many fond memories of this time have been preserved by her children. Anne was always seen at the main desk and enjoyed talking with the patrons.
Anne worked at the Anchorage Nursing Home in Shelburne for over 20 years. She was also co-owner of the Shelburne Falls Supermarkets and Sawyers News in Shelburne with her late husband George F. Needham, retiring in 1978.
Anne leaves behind her daughter Maureen and her husband Robert Pike of Shelburne; two sons, Stanley and his wife Kim Goddard of Conway and Paul and his wife Maureen Goddard of South Deerfield. Seven beloved grandchildren: Daniel Pike, Eric Pike and his wife Michele, Kelley and her husband Ross Bandouveres, Casey and his wife Erika Goddard, Chris and wife Shannon Goddard, Nathan Goddard, Nichole (Goddard) and her husband Christian Filimon. Anne also leaves behind five great granddaughters that she loved dearly, twins Kiera and Aislan Pike and Logen Goddard, Ellexa Goddard, Pearl Goddard. Also, four nieces, two grandnieces and a grandnephew.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1992 and a daughter Barbara A. Goddard in 2012, in addition to her brother Earl Britton and sister Nina Noga.
