Angelo C. Bruno, Jr., 94, a native of Greenfield, MA and former resident of 31 Cedar Street, passed peacefully on Saturday afternoon, February 10, 2018 at the Buckley Health Care Center with loving family members at his side, following a period of declining health.
He was born on August 29, 1923 in Greenfield, MA to Beatrice (Rabideau) and Angelo C. Bruno, Sr., and was educated in Greenfield Public Schools, a graduate of GHS in the Class of 1941. Angelo was employed by the former First National Grocery Store in Greenfield prior to enlisting in the war effort of WWII in the USMC. He served honorably as an Aviation Mechanic aboard an Amphibious Truck from April of 1943 until his discharge in March of 1946 and attained the rank of Sgt.
Upon his discharge, he accepted a positon as a Union Carpenter and worked in the “trades” for over 40 years. Angelo was a member and past President of the Carpenter’s Union local #549 and also served on the State Carpenter’s Union as a delegate at large. He was a devout communicant of Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield, MA, where he married his wife the former Marion L. Way. Sadly, she predeceased him in June of 1989.
Angelo was an active member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks #1296. He enjoyed woodworking, the out of doors, hunting and fishing and camping at Cape Neddick, ME, in particular at the foot of the famous “Nubble Lighthouse” which is located there. He enjoyed collecting stamps and “first day covers”, as well as coins in his younger years. He had a love for animals, especially for cats and dogs. Angelo was a devoted father and grandfather, who doated on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren often attending their numerous events and sports activities. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper and playing cards.
He was predeceased by his wife Marion, as well as by his son Leonard and daughter-in-law Carol and by his three siblings. He is remembered with love and affection by his son: Thomas P. Bruno and his fiancé’ Deborah J. Hayes, as well as by his daughter-in-law: Marjorie Bruno (wife of the late Leonard Bruno). He is also remembered by his adoring grandchildren: Lindsay McQuade and her husband Richie, Adam Bruno, Katie Kiszely and her husband Tim, Kimberly Bruno and her fiancé Eric Bookbinder and Jennifer Brown and her husband Chris, in addition to 7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Additionally, he leaves his sister-in-law: Doris Bruno of Montague, MA.
Funeral services will be observed on Friday, February 16, 2018 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30AM AM, from Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main Street, Greenfield, MA. Rites of committal and burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield, MA. Military honors will be provided by a detachment from the USMC, assisted by the Hale/Clapp VFW Post #3295 of South Deerfield, MA, who will provide a firing detail. A reception will be announced at the conclusion of the committal services. The Bruno family will receive guests on Friday morning at McCarthy Funeral Homes, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA from 8:45AM until of the dismissal at 9:45AM, to be followed by a processional to Holy Trinity Church.
Angelo’s family requests that flowers be omitted and that a charitable contribution in his memory be directed to the Upper Pioneer Valley Veteran’s Service District, in c/o Timothy Niejadlik, Director, 294 Main Street, Greenfield, MA 01301.
