Alvin N. Dyer passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023, at the age of 93. Born in Norwalk, CT to William and Flora Dyer who made their home in Millers Falls, MA. Al graduated from Greenfield High School and enlisted in the Navy where he served 3 years as a Fireman (FN) and honorably discharged in 1950.
Following a few years of mechanical jobs, Al started his career at the New England Power Company and retired after 33 years of service. While working at the power company, Al met and married Harriet “Belle” Thompson in 1958. Making their home in Colrain, MA they raised their three boys teaching them many life skills and the value of humor.
Retiring at the age of 60, he had many years to enjoy family, friends, gardening, and traveling with Belle throughout the Northeast to many breakfast and lunch establishments. Al would always find time to scan the aisle to find the perfect funny card. He loved funny cards, jokes, and anecdotes!
Al leaves his loving wife of 65 years, “Belle” sons David and his wife Barbara, of Buckland, MA, Bill and his partner Stephanie Provencher of Goshen, MA, as well as 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Ray in 2006.
Al’s family will receive guests on Saturday November 11, 2023, from 10am to 12pm at the McCarthy Funeral Home “On the Common” at 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, MA. A private burial will follow in the North River Cemetery, Jacksonville Rd., Colrain, MA. Full military honors will be observed with a detachment of the USN in attendance to be assisted by the Hale-Clapp VFW Post 3295 of South Deerfield, MA providing a firing detail.
